1. When did you first get interested in DVD and why?

Being a bit of a computer geek my original interest was in what DVD offered the computer market. 4.7GB of space seemed MASSIVE just a few years ago. Of course, that all changed when I saw a presentation of what DVD could do for film at a trade show. The clarity compared to VHS blew me away…and still does.
My first ever DVD purchase was the now OOP original version of Terminator 2.

2. Did you ever expect DVD to become as popular as it has now?

I don't want to toot my own horn, but I really did think DVD would make the sort of impact that laserdisc never did. It did happen a little faster than I expected though. Two things which I thought might hold the format back originally was the dreaded flipper aspect of some discs, and the compatibility issues (some titles wouldn't work on certain players) that were problematic early on. Of course nowadays with RSDL discs and better compatibility, DVD is unstoppable.

3. What are some of your favourite movies and some of your favourite DVDs?

It's wonderful that so many of my favourite films have come to DVD now. There was HUGE anticipation over the special edition of Se7en and thankfully it didn't disappoint. Of course The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones look wonderful on DVD.

I can't forget The Fellowship of the Ring Extended DVD release as it's a thing of beauty, as is the recently released Indiana Jones. Special editions of Die Hard, Die Hard 2, JFK and Amadeus also mark as some of my favourites.

I'm also a HUGE fan of TV on DVD so I've got a big collection including complete seasons of Buffy, Angel (even paying a small fortune to import the widescreen Season 2 from Region 2), 24, Futurama, Red Dwarf, Twin Peaks and many more.

4. Which 'not so good' DVDs would you never want ruining your collection?

I had the unfortunate pleasure of seeing the original Force Video release of one of my favourite movies Dune. What a horrible experience that was, but to be perfectly honest, the quality of DVDs is so good these days that even the crappiest movie can be bearable.

5. Which DVD(s) not yet available are you looking forward to most being released?

Thankfully, with the popularity of the format there are so many great titles that have already been released. I think we're all waiting for The Original Trilogy though. The Lion King would be right up there for me. An anamorphic version of The Abyss and Dune would be quite nice too. I'm really looking forward to seeing Kill Bill on DVD as well. And this Alien Quadrilogy sounds pretty damn sweet..

In the Region 4 market, I'd love to see special editions of Dogma, Total Recall, & Die Hard 3 finally see the light of the day. An uncut version of Commando and Leon: Version Integrale would also be nice. Can't forget about Almost Famous (Bootleg Edition) either.

Oh..and I almost forgot..Howard: The Duck
(no, I'm not kidding..and stop laughing!!!)

6. Have you ever gone to extraordinary lengths to satisfy your DVD addiction?

Physical violence doesn't count…right???
