THE MOVIE

ABC For Kids - Let’s Sing and Dance is a compilation DVD that lets children enjoy all their favourite ABC characters on one DVD. The DVD features a selection of short excerpts from a number of well known ABC children’s television series (some of this material has previously been released on other DVDs). So join The Hooley Dooleys, Bob the Builder, Spot, Thomas the Tank Engine and Bananas in Pyjamas for loads of fun and laughter, singing and dancing.

The Hooley Dooleys sing about their favourite friend Russell the Muscley Kangaroo and then they sing another classic tune, Jumbo Jive. Bruce, David and Antoine also perform Beat and Beach live on stage in front of loads of enthusiastic children.

Bob the Builder stars in an episode called ‘Buffalo Bob’. In this episode Bob is busy building a stage for a line dancing competition. He’s been taking lessons with Mavis but she sprains her ankle so Bob has to quickly teach Wendy how to line dance. The pair get dressed up in their cowboy gear and impress the crowd with their line dancing routine.

Spot stars in two episodes, Spot’s Show and Spot’s Musical Band. In the first episode, his friends Steve, Tom and Helen come to play. They decide to put on a show and give tickets to Spot’s parents so they can attend. In the second episode Spot and Sam are walking in the park when Spot hears a band playing. Spot and his friends are inspired and decide to form their own band. Spot is the conductor, while Tom, Helen and Steve play the instruments.

Sing along with Thomas the Tank Engine in two great musical adventures, Thomas We Love You, Let’s Have A Race and It’s Great To Be An Engine. These three musical adventures include English captions so the children can sing along too.

Rounding out the DVD are Bananas in Pyjamas. B1 and B2 dress up as doctors and visit Rat who is at home sick in bed. They sing Rat a lullaby and everyone ends up falling asleep. In the second episode, the teddy bears are out looking for stars, it’s a great opportunity for another sing along, this time Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

THE TRANSFER

Video:

ABC For Kids - Let’s Sing and Dance is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 full frame. The visual transfer is reasonably good, but it varies quite considerably depending on the children’s television series. The two musical adventures from Thomas the Tank Engine have arguably the best visual quality, especially in terms of detail. However, all of the different excerpts have rich and vibrant colours and there was barely any film grain or MPEG artefacts to be found.

Audio:

This DVD has only one soundtrack, that being a Dolby Digital 2.0 channel soundtrack. The audio transfer is quite good. Dialogue is clearly audible in all of the different excerpts from the various children’s television series. The music was also very good and the children are sure to be singing and dancing along with their favourite ABC characters in no time. There are no subtitles on this DVD.

THE EXTRAS

Unfortunately there are no extra features on this DVD. There are only three menus and all of them are static with looped Dolby Digital 2.0 channel sound.
