THE MOVIE

Yet another 'is it almost over?' movie. Okay, maybe its not that bad, but its still not good. This movie centres around three sisters - Eve (Meg Ryan), Georgia (Diane Keaton) and Maddy (Lisa Kudrow). They are trying to live their own life, plus stay in touch with each other and their grumpy father (Walter Matthau) who is ill.

Eve ends up being the person who is left trying to pull the family together and make everything work out. The movie leaves a lot to be desired in the plotline, the only thing that really lifted it for me was Walter Matthau who I seem to enjoy in all his movies.

THE TRANSFER

Video:

Why do poor movies get excellent transfers? (Actually a better question is why do poor movies get released on DVD.. but that can be answered some other time!).

Once again Columbia Tristar present us an excellent video presentation. Perfect colours, perfect shadows, perfect everything except for a few white specs and marks on the print that can rarely be seen.

The movie is 16x9 enhanced (WHY WAS THIS DONE 16x9 and CARLITO'S WAY NOT???????) and has a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, with the layer change happening at 60:10 which was not intrusive at all.

Audio:

The audio was clear. This is a drama/comedy, so as long as the audio is clear, voices nicely represented and understandable, there isnt too much that could go wrong :)

Lets go through a checklist.....

Surround sound usage? Well this is a drama/comedy, its use was very limited

Does the audio place you in the middle of the movie? Well this is a drama/comedy, it doesnt need to

Does it sound good? Yes

Are voices clear? Yes

Is it in sync? Yes

Is the soundtrack ok? Yes

Is the soundtrack brilliant? No

THE EXTRAS

Firstly, PLEASE can we have a different Dolby Trailer besides the City one? Im getting sick of the City Trailer :)

The featurette, Making of Getting Connected, the Making of Hanging Up is blegh... not interesting at all for me. I guess people who are more into this type of movie would like it and enjoy it possibly.

Also included is a deleted scene, which is long and tiresome, but we have outtakes which are enjoyable, probably the most enjoyable thing of this disc.

We also have an isolated music score... I sort of went through this, but it made the movie even more unbearable to watch, the music isnt inspiring, and without the dialogue the movie is worse off than it already is!

We also have the usual talent profiles and theatrical trailer included.

SUMMARY

What can I say? I wouldnt buy this. I wouldnt have even watched this unless I had been given it to review.

This movie really isnt aimed at my demographic (Male, 22), hopefully there is some people out there that will enjoy this movie. I dont know who those people are, but im sure theres at least one of them!
Update My housemate Aimee watched this with me.. and just saw my comments.. she said she liked it, it looks like I found the one person :) BUT she was half asleep while watching it...
